Pregnancy

Our aim is to prevent or alleviate the physical and emotional stresses of pregnancy and labour. We achieve this by improving the mother’s physical fitness and her understanding of the changes taking place to her body during pregnancy.

We teach effective relaxation, breathing awareness, and positioning techniques and thus help prepare the expectant mother to relieve tension and pain. And prepare her to enjoy a more positive birth experience. Where problems arise, such as backache, pelvic girdle pain, and stress incontinence, we would provide expert treatment personalized to suit the expectant mothers’ needs.

Women commonly experience muscle and joint pain post-natally and can suffer from weakness of the lower abdominal and pelvic floor muscles in both vaginal and cesarean deliveries. Some of the postnatal conditions treated at The Sherwood Clinic are Pelvic floor muscle weakness, prolapse and stress incontinence, lower back pain, thoracic spine pain, neck, and upper shoulder pain and stiffness and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
